11. JIKARA Mobile Application
This section applies specifically to users of the JIKARA Japanese learning mobile application ("JIKARA App") and governs how the JIKARA App collects, uses, and shares your personal data, including data shared with third-party Artificial Intelligence (AI) processors. In the event of any conflict between this Section 11 and the general sections above, this Section 11 controls for JIKARA App users.
11.1 Data We Collect
JIKARA collects the following categories of data:
Account data (when you sign in):
- Name (from your sign-in provider; optional, may be edited)
- Email address (used for authentication and account recovery)
- Authentication identifier from Sign in with Apple, Google Sign-In, or our email/password system
Learning data (created as you use the app):
- Selected JLPT level, native language, daily goal, and interest preferences
- Lesson, drill, review, and conversation session history
- Vocabulary, grammar, and kanji mastery progress
- Streak, total minutes practiced, and badges earned
- Saved words and study list
Conversation data (when you start an AI practice session):
- Audio recordings of your voice spoken during a session
- Text transcripts of your speech generated by our speech-to-text provider
- Text messages you type in a session
- AI tutor responses generated for your session
Device and diagnostic data:
- Crash reports and performance diagnostics
- Push-notification token (only if you grant notification permission)
11.2 How We Collect Data
- Directly from you — when you create an account, complete onboarding, type a message, or speak in a practice session.
- Automatically — as you complete lessons, drills, and reviews, your progress is computed and stored.
- From sign-in providers — when you use Sign in with Apple or Google Sign-In, we receive the name and email address (or relay address, if you choose Hide My Email) that you authorize the provider to share.
11.3 How We Use Data
- To authenticate your account and keep you signed in across sessions.
- To deliver the conversation practice feature by transmitting your voice, transcript, and text to our AI processors and returning the tutor's response.
- To compute and display your learning progress, streak, mastery, and recommendations.
- To send transactional and reminder notifications (only if you have enabled them).
- To detect and fix crashes and performance problems.
- To prevent abuse and enforce our Terms.
We do not sell your personal data, do not use your conversation data to train AI models, and do not use your data for advertising or behavioural profiling.
11.4 Third Parties We Share Data With
JIKARA shares specific data with the following named service providers in order to operate the app. Each provider is contractually required to protect your data to a standard equal to that described in this Privacy Policy, to process the data only on JIKARA's instructions, and not to use it to train their own models.

11.5 AI Processing Disclosure
JIKARA's conversation practice feature relies on third-party Artificial Intelligence services to function. When you start a practice session:
- The audio of your voice is sent to Groq, Inc. in the United States, where it is transcribed by a speech-to-text model. The audio is not retained by Groq.
- The transcript and a sliding window of your recent conversation turns are sent to Anthropic, PBC in the United States, where the Claude language model generates the tutor's reply.
- The tutor's reply text is sent to Google LLC's Cloud Text-to-Speech service in the United States, which returns synthesized audio.
- The synthesized audio is streamed back to your device and played.
All transmissions use TLS 1.3 encryption. None of these providers use your data to train their models. You must explicitly accept the in-app "AI Data Consent" disclosure before any AI session can begin, and you may revoke that consent at any time in Settings → Privacy & Data.
11.6 Data Retention and Deletion
- Audio recordings: transcribed in real time by Groq and not retained by Groq. JIKARA retains the audio file in Azure Blob Storage for 90 days for session replay, then deletes it.
- Transcripts and learning data: retained for the lifetime of your account so you can review past sessions and progress.
- Account deletion: you may delete your account and all associated personal data from inside the app at Settings → Privacy & Data → Delete account, or by emailing support@aikyo.ai. Deletion is irreversible and completes within 30 days. Anonymised, aggregated statistics that cannot be linked back to you may be retained for product analytics.
- Consent withdrawal: you may revoke AI consent at any time in Settings → Privacy & Data. Doing so disables all AI-powered practice features but does not delete your account.
11.7 Your Rights
You have the right to:
- Access your personal data — request a copy by emailing support@aikyo.ai.
- Correct inaccurate data — edit profile fields inside the app or contact support.
- Delete your data — see "Data Retention and Deletion" above.
- Withdraw consent — revoke AI processing consent in Settings.
- Lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority (for users in the EU/UK/Japan and other applicable jurisdictions).
11.8 Children
JIKARA is not directed to children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect personal data from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided personal data to us, contact support@aikyo.ai and we will delete it.
11.9 Contact (JIKARA)
